such as is it best to fire with one eye open or two, is it better to fire when your breathed all your air out or halfway. Also as I am a tall person 6ft 7 to be exact i always find firing from the kneeling position a bit of a challenge so any tips on how 2 get more comfortable? and yes I do know my markmanship principles and nothing in the army is meant to be comfortable.

Try using the marksman principles and actually applying yourself. Ask for advice from your PW instructor. Dry firing and going through the motions and getting comfortable in a firing position prior to the shoot can often help. One eye closed breath calmly and slowly as too much heavy breathing makes your chest go up and down and therefore your sight picture. Hold on half a breath and then slowly squeeze the trigger by picking up the pressure and then releasing the shot - snatching the trigger can often disturb your position. Practice makes perfect and even if you don't shoot an APWT for a while, it can take a few hours a practice shoots to get back up to speed. Before you shoot get your sights on the target and then close your eyes for 5 seconds - then open them, if your sight has moved from th target, your position and hold is poor and your sight alignment / sight picture needs altering. Take your time its not a race to get a good grouping. Little things like no bone on bone will help.
Enjoy. A day on the range is enjoyable. In the kneeling tuck your elbow on to the top of your webbing and your other elbow wants to be on the fleshy part of your thigh, or triceps on your knee.
Good luck.

Being as tall as you are you should probably sit on your foot when in the kneeling position. Then lock your elbow into the crook of your knee (even if it means crouching your back). Take a deep breath while looking over the top of the sights at your target. let half of the air out and stop breathing. Then acquire your front sight and FOCUS on it and nothing else. Place the front sight on the target which should be slightly blurred, and then move the but end of the rifle with your trigger hand to place the front sight in the notch of the rear sight (which should also be slightly blurred). Then pull the rifle back into your shoulder as hard as you can with your trigger hand and start your squeeze immediately.

For a good group it is imparitive that you do everything exactly the same way every time.

It doesn't matter what rifle you use the principle is the same with all..Never hold the weapon in the aim position always close one eye...

Keep the weapon in the shoulder just below aim then bring the rifle up into aim hold breath squeeze trigger then relax back to below aim....
Remember to flow don't linger the longer you aim the more you wobble be fluid find a rhythm and always use an easy aim point on the target..And relax don't tense it will come to you...Good luck maybe another sniper in the making...

Point the gun towards the target, relax, breath in slowly. take up the tension in the trigger, exhail and squeeze. don't jerk the weapon and don't close your eyes. Don't get too close to the backsight either as it hurts like hell when it bites you.

Kneeling is an awkward position especially when you are tall. Try sitting on your **** and putting your elbows across the gap in you knee's. then rest the weapon lightly in the prone position with your body sideways to the target.

1. Position an hold must be firm enough to support the weapon
2. The weapon should point naturallyat the target undue physical effort.
3. Sight alignment (aiming) must be correct.
4. The shot must be released and followed through without disturbing the position.

Same as Michael above except to add that when you let your breath half out begin to squeeze the trigger slowly as you acquire the sight picture. One eye, Elbows tucked in hard, Breath out and hold, sight picture and squeeze is all you have to remember.

Looks like we all concur. :)

dont hold your breath. anyone who says that is talkin crap breath normaly and just let the sight motion over the target with your breathing.
its tricky using the iron sight but i'm guessing your talking 50/200 metre ranges. just take your time and aim for the same spot with every trigger pull.
