We have a new dog we adopted. Her owner passed away and she has been very anxious here and barks constantly, so much that it has become a nuisance. Otherwise, she is a great dog. Any suggestions or tips for stopping constant barking?

they have these toys like a fire hydrant or tubes that are hollow tha you can stuff with treats. this will keep her occupied and calm. i have a Pomeranian that was the same way , i got him one of these toys and he spent hours getting the treats out after awhile he forgot what he was so upset about and he calmed down . now he is happy and so are we.

ignore it. By giving her attention negative or positive you are affirming this behavior. If you react to the dog she believes there was something to react to begin with. Also, if you have not established your self as the leader, she has taken on the role. she may not believe you are capable of taking care of/protecting the home, so she has assumed that role. Here is a list of things to establish yourself as leader.
1. you eat first always
2. you go through doors and doorways first always
3. you sleep in the bed not her after some time you may invite her to lay on the bed but she should go to her sleep space after some time
4. do not give her attention until about 10 or 15 minutes have lapsed after returning home
5. you initiate play

If you have established yourself as leader a simple look of disgust will stop her barking.

Ignore her when she is barking. Then when she quits count to three and give her extreme praise and a treat. After a couple days she will realize that barking isn't going to get her attention. Good luck.
