i dont want to let it grow back as its a long process and will look awful.
Can i die it back ginger ontop of the dark brown hair dye?
does hair dye stripper work? and does it damage hair as much as people say it does?

You really should see a professional for this. The reason I say this is while you can TRY and get back to your ginger colour, a professional will know how to properly strip the dark dye out of your naturally light hair without damaging it.

If you were to try it on your own, I think you might find some strange results because of how different you went (ginger --> black). And you might not know the proper process and the right way to strip out that black.

You could TRY bleaching it out by buying your natural ginger colour in a box and pretending your hair is naturally dark, but that's meant for natural hair actually being dark, not ginger hair that was dyed to look dark.

You could even end up with green, odd, mis-coloured hair as my friend did....

You're essentially stripping out dye from your hair, so yes, it will damage your hair.
