My guess is you followed the rules and didn't get pulled over therefore you didn't get caught. What would have happened had you is different depending on where you live. Here in Alberta Canada where i live they would have impounded the car you were driving regardless who's it was and kept it for a month. And you would have to face the judge for you fate, usually longer suspension with a hefty fine.

You would have been charged with driving without a license and have had to go to court. You would have had to pay court fees and could have been placed on probation. Depending on why you don't have a license (say it was taken away due to a DUI) then they could either take away your license for a certain amount of time or take it away altogether.
You were never caught because your license plate wasn't run by cops. If they would have run the plates, then they'd probably know that you did not have a license and you would have been pulled over.
Not to mention, the car probably would have been impounded. If the car you were driving was yours, they would not give it back to you until you could prove you were licensed. If it was someone elses, the car could be released to them. That would cost on average $100-300 dollars, plus cost of impound each day.
Get a license. It's not worth all the money and hassles you'd have if you do get caught.

Did you have a suspended license or just didn't have one?
It's my guess you were lucky either way. Depending on the state you reside in and you are an adult, you could get a ticket for driving with no license or a possibility you could get arrested.
If you get caught driving with a suspended license, theres a very high probability of going to jail.

You would be cited for driving without a license, driving without insurance and would be facing a large ticket and possibly an extension of your license suspension.
If you had run into the wrong person, you may have suffered a physical reminder that these actions are not without repercussions.

You would've been cited for driving without a license&insurance, and depending on the cop, you could have been arrested.
As to how you got away with it, well..the ratio of cops to normal citizens is around 1:400, last I heard. They can't be everywhere or see everything, and you just got lucky. Be careful, don't get busted.

depends on if you have a license at home or not..If you have one and are caught without it you are given a fine and have to provide proof of it within a certain number of hours. If you don't have a license i'm guessing you would be F**ked...dunno though!

You were not caught because you were not pulled over. If caught you would have been arrested for unlicensed driver and could have spent up to five days in jail or up to a five hundred dollar fine.
