which are the beatitudes. I find such comfort and strength in these verses because they are all charasteristics we all have in som way shape or form, What do the beatitudes mean to you and how have they shpaed your walk with God? How has this passage blessed you?

They put our focus on a simple way of life and the importance of having a pure heart. Unlike the "prosperity message" the pastors and evangelists preach today. I wonder sometimes if they have ever read the new testament.

The beatitudes remains the best researched message ever preached on earth. It reviews the messages of the patriarch, corrects the message of the contemporary and points to the demands of the holy God on how to get to heaven. I find 5:3-12 particularly interesting. It reminds of the need for righteousness and encourages during persecutions.

Christ did indeed say the most remarkable spiritual teachings in the sermon on the Mount--that shook up the prevailing religious teaching of that time--for instance in Matthew 5:38 Christ said --"do not resist evil"--which was directly opposed to the religious behavior of that time--.In Matthew 5:14 Christ said to the 5,000 strangers listening that they were the "light of the world"--which must have verged on blasphemy to "Gods chosen people".

I just finished a shower. Sometimes, I like to shower when I'm feeling a bit sad or frustrated, lol. Now I click back into R&S and read Matthew 5:3-12 again at your suggestion! It means everything to me!!! It is the strenght and wisdom in following the righteous path.

NOtice how they are progressive...First you are poor in spirit...blessed are you for knowing that and admitting it...even more blessesd are you for mourning the fact that you are poor in spirit....this makes you meek....(teachable)...then you finally hunger and thrist after righteousness.

then a tremendous change comes....YOu now are merciful because of all the Lord has done for you....you become a peacemaker...then....finally...you are persecuted because you refuse to fight back like Jesus and Paul and Joseph Smith and Martinl Luther King.

But happy are you becuase you are now on the list of those who have been persecuted for Christ. A wonderful list to be on...don't you think?

It has a way of putting things in perspective, especially by worldly standards.

I need only what the Lord supplies.
