a promise ring is a ring that a guy sometimes gives a girl to "promise to get engaged" usually they are alot daintier and cheaper than a real engagement ring they are still very nice. I think the main reason is for the guy who 'one day' wants to get married to you and instead of following through with an engagement ring at first buys you a promise ring...maybe he's testing the waters on what you think about the whole marriage idea.

A promise ring is a ring that says you will get engaged. Most of the time it has an opal in it. I think it's stupid but thats just me.

it's a ring that like the guy givess to his girlfriend, and it's just a promise that they will get married. but i knew this guy that gave his girlfriend one, and they didn't even get married1!!!
