Coulrophobia is the name for fear of clowns. Nobody is quite sure of the reasoning behind it. It may just be that when the sufferers are young they become afraid of\ the made up face, and that this fear persists.

Oh, I hear ya!
I am 28 and still totally creeped out by those same clowns.

I also thought the dancing old man on the Six-Flags campaign on TV a while back was super-creepy. And how about that weird Quaker Oatmeal statue that all the little kids play around on TV commercials now?

Maybe I am the strange one, but c'mon, those are pretty weird characters to promote to kids.

I don't know what it's called but my niece who is 30 is also scared of clowns after watching a movie of Stephen King when she was young and the clown was evil. Good Luck

I don't know what the phobia is called, but I'm SO with you on that one - and I haven't even seen IT. Never liked them, always been freaked by them, and can't get my head round why parents hire them for kids parties - there should definitely be something in the Children Act about that!

I agree with you. The worst for me are rodeo clowns, they look like they came from the dead since the face is white, the clothes are tattered, and the hair (wigs) are all nasty and dirty. Why would or could someone find this entertaining?
