Does anyone know what the age is when a child, in TX, can step up and say that he/she wishes to be adopted by the step-father/mother and have the rights of the bio parent relinquished? (the child has chosen not see the bio parent and has has not in several years...she now wishes to be adopted by the step-parent and end all ties with the bio parent?)

For something like a change in adoption when the bio parent is still alive, it is probably 16 years old. They can have an opinion about visitation at an earlier age....but probably not this, unless the bio parent agrees to it.

Children have a right to be heard the minute that they are born...They are people too..If your baby cries, are you going to see what the problem is or ignore him cos he has no right to be heard..

I think it is the most important thing in parenting is to listen to what your children think, feel or anything else..Usually when we speak there is a reason for it..When my children wanted to speak to me when I had company or if I was busy, I would let them say what they wanted then if it was not important at the time then I would remind them that I was busy with something and next time if it could wait that would be appreciated instead of interrupting me...

Well they might ask a kid as long as their school aged and give a straight answer about which parent they'd prefer. But I believe when they become 12 or 13 they can decide which one they want to live with.

In NY it's 12.
For the first answer- yes a child can speak their mind at any age, but the court won't listen.

I think this initiative has to come from the stepparent. A lawyer has the definitive answer for this - see one in your community.

He has the right to voice out at any age.
It all depends on whether someone would listen to them.
