U have to use a special shampoo, a clarifying one or an anti-residue one. I used Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo and it's great, I use it once a week and my hair feel so light afterwards, the information and review are at: http://beauty-tricks.com/index.php?option=com_facileforms&Itemid=&ff_name=ReviewList&ff_param_section=3&ff_param_cat=31&ff_param_limit=10&ff_param_order=SubmissionDateNew

Dish soap is pretty harsh and extreme. You can try it, but don't do it often because it really strips your hair, and to be honest, dish soap is NOT meant for your hair.

I'd try Neutrogena's hair shampoo. Since it's clear (you can see through it), it means that the shampoo is not meant to be moisturizing (then it'd look like a lotion), since it has a lot of surfactants in it.

It's made for hair, and will get rid of build up. Lather up really well and work it into your scalp, and rinse REALLY well to get it all out, and follow with a light conditioner.

You can use clarifying shampoo, or go to the salon to get a scientific brush and a protein pack, that would help.

I had that problem and my hairstylist told me to use dish soap(like dawn original). it worked pretty good to! she said use it once a month cuz conditioner will bring the build up back.

i know it sounds a bit sick, but washing up liquid (like fairy) is excellent for getting rid of build up... it seems to strip all the grease and build up from your hair as good as it does the dishes!!

I've heard you rinse with water and vinegar. And that should remove build up.
