black or blue marine suits with gold buttons with the spade and hat to rent for my wedding

No marine is allowed to loan his suit out to anyone not in the marines. He can be dishonorably discharged. They are not allowed to wear dress blues whenever they want either. It is for special occasions and events.

You cannot rent them and you cannot just buy one from a base.

The wearing of the dress blues is an honor and sacred. It is a privledge granted.

If you have anyone invited to your wedding who is a marine I would not even consider having a designer make you a similar one or getting one from a costume shop. It is an extreme slap in the face, seen as a mockery. It would be very similar to if you decided for the reception to have your first dance on the flag.

I'm not exaggerating--it could cause a rift in your family that would never be mended.

---------------Edit------------------------
Your question has continued to be on my mind since I answered. My grandfather was in WWII; my dad was in Vietnam. Both of them saw hundreds of men die in that uniform. That uniform symbolizes the men who never made it home, the families that still miss them, the children that never knew a father. I live in NC surrounded by Fort Bragg in Fayetteville (US Army), Seamore Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, Camp Lejeune (USMC) in Jacksonville and my own Cherry Point (Naval-USMC). It's not a costume to those guys. It's hundreds of years of pride and sacrifice. Men do not join--they are born soldiers. It's a calling similar to the priesthood. Even if you do not mean to be disrespectful, even if you mean to honor them by using the uniform, it probably won't be seen as such.

And those invited that express anti-war sentiment would probably be quite offended too. May attempt to use your wedding ceremony to express their feelings about the war.

But especially right now when so many men in the armed forces are dying, and similarly to Vietnam they fight in an anti-war America where many people don't see a difference b/t anti-war and anti-troops, being insulted by government officials (Kerry) calling them stupid for wanting to protect our country, it's an especially hard time to be in the military.

Please--your question has really hit close to home. Don't do it.

Like everyone else is pointing out...it is not a good idea to wear a military uniform if you are not in the military. I know several US Marines that would find it very disrespectful if a uniform was being worn by a person that wasn't a Marine. Maybe you didn't know that it was a big deal to wear the uniform, think twice. Good luck.

You do know that people have been arrested for impersonating soldiers at events like weddings and funerals.

If you were not impersonating one then why would you need to rent the uniform?

You can not wear the uniform of a Marine unless you are in the service. It is considered disrespectful to the corp and you must be a Marine in order to wear the uniform.

join and you'll get one for free......
it's actually against the law to wear one unless you ARE a marine, and even then, all awards, decorations, and rank must be correct for your paygrade.
