I have a very old cat and a young UNspayed kitten who has just come into season, we don't let her out as she is a pedigree. I was quite shocked to see my old tom cat mating with her.. I thought his sexual urges would have been long gone by now, especially as he was neutered at an early age. Will he be ok, he has bad arthuritis in his legs!

He's going through a mid life crisis.hahahaha....Just because he is neutered it doesn't have anything to do with his nose and animal instincts. He smells her so he is going to try to mate with her. Good luck

I also have a 15 yr old male tom cat who does the same thing. But he does not mount my 2 yr old cat he rather try to mate with mine or my boyfriends legs while we sleep. Honestly I just think they forget that it's gone. Animal instinct is always there regardless if all body parts are there or not. As for the arthritis in his legs, if it hurt him, he probably wouldn't do it.

When cats are neutered, it doesnt get rid of their "urges". We're getting my cat neutered in a couple days and the vet said that he'll still be able to mate with my female cat. He just won't be able to impregnate her. I don't know what I'll do when he tries to mate with her...lol. About the arthritis, I would talk to your vet.
