Joel Olsteen: true Christian or not? something just doesn't seem right about him to me.?

I don't think that it is up to us if he is a true christian or not, but I will say that he is a "feel good" preacher, he says what people want to hear, rather than what they need to hear. He stays away from the controversial issues and debates, which I am not all for, but everyone is different.

I love his show ... it's a great supplement to my faith. I wasn't at his "Baptism" (all types of Christianity is united through Baptism) ---> I'm fairly positive he's Christain.

You are right to question the validity of a teacher. We are given guidelines as how to recognize false teachers.

In short we are to be careful of attaching ourselves to teachers who:

And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not" (Revelation 2:20-21), or

(2) do not practice the Truth they profess to teach, i.e., "Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to His disciples, Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: all therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of men" (Matthew 23:1-5).

Haven't seen him that much, but to me he is more motivational speaker than Christian minister.
