Haha! Great question. I bet if Jesus had been alive during the seventies he would have been a hippie. He decried corrupt politics, defied social norms, had a band of followers, and preached of a better life to come. I'm sure in the eighties he would have had a mohawk and a torn denim jacket (throwing over the tables at the church sound slightly punkish to anyone else?). If he were around today I bet he'd be hanging out with the goths at local colleges before he'd wander into a church.

He was not meek and mild and soft-spoken. Jesus was a revolutionary who hung out with people on the fringes of society and made people happy with the status quo very uncomfortable.

Jesus was one of the first real hippies, yes. Peace and love, you dont get much more hippy-dippy than that. Not to mention that he opposed many of the norms of the day (stonings, "eye for an eye", etc)

Nothin to do with long hair though. Most people back then had long hair.

Jesus was a total hippie and I bet you if he were to come back today, the people in America that consider themselves to be the "Religious Right" would have him killed all over again just for being a liberal, peace-loving hippie!

Jesus would totally be marching on Washington to end the war too!

I don't see your question being funny at all. If Jesus was a hippy for having long hair, I guess a majority of the population in those times were hippies as well. Jesus was the Son of God, your Savior.

The image of Jesus was commissioned by the Church to be painted and doesn't show the actual characteristics of Jesus. However, Jesus was considered part of radical movement during that period.

Definition of a hippie:

A person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society, especially one who advocates extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitudes and lifestyles.

So for his time - yes.

No way, dude! Jesus was radical! He talked about peace; he talked about turning the other cheek when the dominant theme was eye for an eye!
He talked about a kingdom, and people thought he meant on earth.
He was talking about all of us hangin' out in the sky!
Talk about smokin' the reefer!
