If she has just gained the weight by being lazy, suggest she starts exercising a little each day, and give her support in doing so. If she hasnt changed any or much of her daily activities, it could just be the type of foods she is eating. If she's been eating more junk food than healthy food, that could be the problem, and she should cut back on the unhealthy stuff. There are also considerations such as growth spurts or pregnancy that can make one gain weight like that. Keep in mind though that 10 pounds is not a dramatic amount of weight to gain and with commitment she could easily lose that extra weight with diet and exercise.

We need more details, like how tall she is and what her weight is, etc. I gained about 15 pounds in the past year, I'm almost 13, but I went from a size 10 to size 12. So yeah, I don't know what to say, but I guess that is normal. It could be a growth spurt or something..

In six months isn't a bad thing. Sure it is unhealthy to gain weight. but everyone has their down times. If she had gained that much in a couple of weeks THEN i would be worried but she'll get back on track

It depends on how old she is, if she's under 25 then probably not. Almost everyone I know gained 20 pounds after high school. You should watch her, if she gets larger then she might have some sort of thyroid problem. Either that or she's overeating.

She is only unhealthy if she gained weight by eating junk food and not exercising.
If she did not change her eating/exercising habits at all, then she has nothing to worry about.

Healthy eating and getting some form of exercise is a good idea even if she is not overweight.

At certain ages, you have growth spurts. She probably hit one of those. If she is experiencing no pain or discomfort, I wouldn't worry about it.
