I beleive it is important so you can better understand people and to be open and receptive to others. It is a small step toward making the world a better place. Of course, I'm a bit of an optimist too.

Learning about other religions allows you to have a deeper understanding of not only your own religion, but of the world in general. Most wars over seas are religous based and in order to understand you must understand the beliefs of the people first.
By studying other religions you learn about other cultures and about why historical events happened over the years. Religious study is not just about the bible or koran but about so much more.

well coz if sum1 asks u "why do u follow dat religion" then if u hve studied oder religions thoroughly then u can compare all of em n tell y u like ur religion much better dan da oders wid proper understandin n resources rather than jus sayin 'i was brot up wid it'. plus most of us hve a curiosity as 2 why a certain religion has certain kinds of rules or whteva 4 dat matter, so thru asking we keep learnin new stuff abt oder ppl's religion.
also the world has becum sort of a 'global village' where in we atleast need2 knw da basics or roots of every religion.

It's not.
There are a million things in the world to learn about that are all legitimate, and you have the luxury of picking what you want to learn.
Learning about diversity has it's value, but it's often just a mind-numbing exercise used by liberals because they don't appreciate freedom of choice.

It is very important, especially if you were brought up to believe in one in particular. I truly believe that when you say "I am catholic, and that is where my faith lies" is ignorant unless you know everything there is to know about what other belief systems offer...Good and Bad. I am not religious. I am spiritual. Big difference.

Because there are so many, many spiritual and religious choices out there. You don't have to be locked into the one your parents chose to teach you.
The world is not black and white. There are many, many shades of gray....and many more religious choices besides "Christian vs atheist" "Baptist vs Catholic" or "Christian vs Muslim."

So that you can know what it is you are talking about so that you don't sound ignorant. It's always best to know where a person is coming fom then to just make assumptions.
