i got pregnant through ivf with one donated egg. My twins however are not identical. How is this possible?

I used an egg donor to get pregnant through ivf. I was implanted with only one embryo and had twins which we assumed would be identical. My twins look nothing alike. Their skin color is different, their head shapes are different, their eye shape is different. They barely look related. How can this be possible with only one embryo implanted?

Hollilyn is incorrect. While the donated egg could have split, resulting in twins, they would have be identical. An egg that splits can only cause identical twins. Fraternal twins come from two different eggs. So if your twins are not identical, your pregnancy was a product of two fertilized eggs. I don't know if they accidentally implanted two eggs, or if the second egg was released by your body, but there is no way your pregnancy was the result of only one donated egg.

I have never heard of this, but if they are not identical twins, then they came from different eggs. Hollilyn is not correct. Fraternal twins come from 2 eggs being fertilized at the same time. They are no more related than regular siblings. Identical twins come from the same egg, split into 2 halves. You should find out what exactly happened.

This is a question that would be best answered by a doctor. Maybe you ovulated on your own or maybe the lab made a mistake and implanted you with more than one egg. Your children are a wonderful blessing but if this keeps bugging you get a dna test done and get some definite answers.

well there was a thing on tv were the doc did ivf with some extra eggs but u should talk to there doc see what they say maybe u should do a DNA test ion the twins see if there a match
