My cat had kittens about 3 weeks ago. They've all, but one, opened their eyes. The one's eyes are still crusted over. I've wiped them all the best I could with warm water, and they started pussing out, too. I really can't afford to go the vet right now, so does anyone have any simple home remedies I might be able to try?

Do keep the eyes as clean as possible. You might try a little boric acid. That is an eye wash for people and is safe to use around the eyes in humans and dogs. I have never tried it on my cats. Follow directions on bottle if you decide to use it.

If they are pus filled, you should remove the puss, clean the area and treat it with an antibiotic ointment - you can get this from your vet. Do keep a close eye on a kitten's eyes, even before they are open, to avoid infection.

My cats (6 cats) get infections on the eye from time to time..with the gooey stuff on their eyes and sometimes its red. My parents are doctors (for human, NOT vets) so they have some sort of knowledge about what medicines to use and what to do. We rarely take them to the vet!!! (Except when they were neutered). What my parents do when they get red eye or infections around the eye is they take the antibiotic cream medicine for the eye (for humans).. dab some on the cotton buds and apply it on the eye. The medicine is for humans but it can be used on animals too (it is not medicine that is ingested so there will not be worries about the animal being allergic to it or anything). So, if you can't afford the vet just go to your local pharmacy (or your medicine cabinet) and get the antibiotic eye gel/cream to apply on the kitty. Make sure that it is for eyes because only those type of cream can touch the eye without stinging! Do not use other medicine that cannot be used on the eye! (or in this case, the cat's eye)
