I moved to the desert about 6 months ago from a sub-tropical location and my hair is now very dry and brittle. My split-ends literally have split-ends! My hair also splits mid-shaft. My hair is quite long and I shampoo/condition daily (if I don't shampoo my roots look like they have been dipped in Crisco.) However, I only apply shampoo to my scalp. I only use a curling iron once a week and I only blow-dry my hair after it has air-dryed to about 75% dry. I use a leave-in conditioner and have tried numerous moisturizing shampoos and treatments including: Infusium 23, Burt's Bees Avocado treatment, Nexxus Humectress, Aussie 3 minute miracle, Aussie leave-in conditioner, Sebastian Raw Silk, V-O5 Hot Oil treatments and HaarKur from Germany. Nothing seems to help. Any advice from those of you living in the desert?

I also have my hair trimmed regularly. I am about ready to "pull a Britney!'

DON'T PULL A BRITNEY!! We don't want that. Look, it's simple. Most products on the market contain ingredients that cause irritation and dryness such as alcohol, wax, dyes, chemicals, fragrances, acetone, mineral oil, etc. These only give a temporary feeling of softness and smell fabulous but they have little to no long term benefits. Arbonne has some great pure, safe, and beneficial products that are formulated to meet your specific need. The self adjusting daily shampoo and conditioner are formulated with natural tree oil. Native to Australia, tea tree oil is known as “The wonder from down under.” :-) This natural, super-potent oil treats dry, flaky scalp, so that both the head and hair are left nourished, and flake-free. It's botanically based, pure, and safe with key ingredients including nanospheres, nettle, hops, sage and thyme extracts, vitamins A, C, E. If you're open to trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.

This is gonna be tough. For what it's worth, I'd be willing to sell my Shakespeare for a few thousand more songs. Songs: Heroin - The Velvet Underground Everyday People - Sly and the Family Stone The Creator Has a Master Plan - Pharaoh Sanders (36 minutes, but it's still a song) Isolation - Joy Division We Can Get Down - A Tribe Called Quest Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan (Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go - Curtis Mayfield (Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding Book: Lolita - Vladmir Nabokov Luxury: Assuming movies would be worthless because I couldn't watch them on anything, I'll copy you and choose my bass. Single song: Heroin

Try blow-drying your hair first and then leaving the remainder to air-dry instead of the other way around. Unfortunately, if the damage is as extensive as you report, the only remedy might be the trimming you're already doing. What has your stylist reccommended?

buy some coconut oil or olive oil. Massage your hair with warm oil, even your scalp if it is dry. agter about an hour wash it off with lukewarm water and shampoo it. do this about 2 times a week for a couple weeks and then only once until you are happy.
