If Sony rates a 10 out of 10, Casio is a 4. Kodak maybe 5. Canon a 8. I would start off with a Sony. Granted it maybe a few bucks more. check here for the best Sony cybershot http://www.geocities.com/lcming/sony

I am perfectly happy with my Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. It's 6 megapixels, 12X optial zoom, has image stabilizer, takes excellent 8X10s and comes with batteries and charger.
Sony does make a CyberShot DSC-H5. It's 7 megapixels, no doubt more money than the H-2. The H-2 can be bought for about $300- Between Sony and Casio, choose Sony.

I have the Casio EX-V770, 7.2Megapixel camera. Got it for $250. I can honestly say that it is every bit as good or better than the Sony you refer to. The most important guage of a camera is NOT the SPECS, but how it works IN YOUR HAND, FOR YOU! You'll find the navigation to features on the Casio superb! Battery life is 200+ shots. Image quality is excellent! Optical Zoom is nice.

Again, try them both, but I think you'll like the Casio. Take particular look at the "BEST SHOT" feature on the Casio!! It MAKES the camera usable in a moments notice.

Sony makes better electronics that Casio in general. Casio makes better non-computer electronics in general. so I'd take the Sony cybershot. anyway, i haven't even heard of the Casio Exilim.
