Well if you want a good arthritis medication that's over the counter, try Extra strengh Excedrin. Work better than Tylenol. But I have never tried Aleve though because Excidrin is that good and you can take it whenever you need it

Think about this: Tylenol Arthritis Pain offers up to 8 hours of relief in an extended-release form.
Unique patented bilayer caplet:
First layer dissolves quickly to provide prompt pain relief.
Second layer is time-released to provide up to 8 hours of relief.
Won’t irritate your stomach the way that aspirin or even ibuprofen sometimes can.
Also available in geltabs.
Tylenol relieves osteoarthritis pain as effectively as nonprescription—and even prescription—doses of naproxen sodium, the medicine in Aleve®.
Since osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis) is primarily a problem of pain more than inflammation, many medical experts recommend that pain relief should be the primary goal of drug therapy. Uses - Temporarily relieves minor aches and pains due to: Muscular aches. Backache. Headache. Toothache. The ommon cold. Menstrual cramps. Minor pain of arthritis. Temporarily reduces fever.
most ppl have problems understanding what Aleve is and used4:
Aleve is in a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Aleve works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Aleve is used to reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by many conditions, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, injury, abdominal cramps associated with menstruation, tendinitis, and bursitis.Aleve may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Bottom line is different things work for different people. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa. I have found that regular ibuprofen works best for me when I have a minor flair up of my arthritis however so do anti inflammatories prescribed from my doc. I just take whenever I need too.

It's just a longer-acting form of acetaminophen. So no build up is necessary.
