President Sean "Jim D", that's a pretty ignorant statement; he said "if we're not related to", not "if we didn't evolve from". Biologists don't believe we evolved from chimps. They just believe we're related to chimps--for the same reason you're related to your son all the more closely, by your even closer DNA relationship. If there was no correlation between having similar DNA and being more closely related, DNA tests would be useless.

Indeed, chimpanzees and humans share a common ancestor, but humans didn't evolve from chimpanzees, in the same way that you didn't evolve from your brother. For an "evolutionist", you need to review your facts.

I dont think we actually share that much dna code with chimps, but we share about 99.9 percent with other humans, and a lot with chimps...

yeah i looked it up and its between 97 and %99 with chimps

Jim D,

The questioner asked if we are not related to chimps, not if we did not evolve.

The fact that you share 99% of your DNA with you son is proof you are related to your son.

Considering reading the question next time.

We are related to chimps, but it's probably like a fifty-thousandth cousin, a thousand times removed. Long enough, anyway, for even the best genealogists to have left them off the genealogy sheet. Shucks, we don't even talk about Great Great Aunt Myrtle.

1. Just because two cars have interchangeable parts, it doesn't mean they both came from a skateboard.

2. The numbers change a lot: one day it may be 99, and 96 the next

3. A one percent difference is still a 44,000,000 (44 million) nucleotide difference. Once you change 4 of these, the organism dies.

That does not mean as much as you might think. We share over 98 percent of our DNA with pigs - so much so that pigs are being considered for living incubators to grow new human organs for transplant!

We share DNA with every species on earth. It's all the same DNA, it's just in different configurations. The DNA mix for primates is closer to the human mix. We are "related" to everything on earth, but we DIDN'T evolve from them.

If we're related to chimps, why is it that no human female in history has ever given birth to one?

You have to be a sucker to fall for the 99% DNA rule!

For the love of Jesus and St. Augustine! We share 99% of our DNA building blocks with the AIDS virus! That doesn't mean we're related!

We share 100% of our DNA with any plant or animal, the code is different for each plant and animal. We are not that close in code to Chimpanzee to claim any remarkable similarities. Why is not a question that science can answer and if science can't answer this question religion certainly can't as well.
