Last week when I was in Thailand I sent myself a text message using this computer. Now that I am back in the US when I try and send a text message I get "Yahoo! Messenger cannot send SMS messages to this mobile number". All the phones are on the AIS network. Any ideas?
thanks, Jay

others have had the right idea, but don't forget the international modifier +.

in Thailand you'd dial 087 - 555 -5555, outside of thailand you need to dial +087 - 555 - 5555, just as in the states you can get away with dialing area code then number, such as 408 - 555 -5555, but outside you'd need to dial +1 408 555 5555.

Personally, I find it beneficial to always add the country to any of my contacts, so regardless of where I am, or what sim I have in, I get through.

Also, if it is a pre-paid sim, remember that they expire pretty quick if you don't recharge them.

This happened only just recently.

The reason is that all the phone numbers have changed in Thailand. Because of the such popular use of mobile phones here, the telephone companies were running out of numbers.

The OLD way: 661-555-5555

The NEW way: 668-1-555-5555

You have to add the 8.

(That is for mobile phones only. Landlines have stayed the same: 662-....)

IF you are calling within Thailand you would dial:

081-555-5555

You will need to add in the country code to the number to send the sms. While you are in Thailand, it is a local number. Now in the US, you need to send international.

Try it using Chikka. Go to google, type in Chikka and download it. I use it to message the Philippines.
