NO! I am Italian and own an Italian restaurant. Italians cook their food so that the flavor is exactly how it should be, which is what makes it so good. Hardly anyone asks for or accepts extra pepper, except maybe on salads. Too much pepper kills the flavor, as well as too much garlic.

I am a server at a fine restaurant and it is not a faux pas, We only ask because it is our job...I really dont care if you want it or not.

No. It's your food, you should be able to eat it the way you like it. If they tried to lay a guilt trip on you, they're just playing with your mind.

No. If they did not want you to have a choice, they would put in on before they gave the food to you.

Not at all. If you don't want extra pepper, you don't want extra pepper.

No reason to take something you don't want because you think it may be considered uncouth.
