iam running windows xp media center but having a prob, cant play movies, avi files , it plays but black screen but can hear the sound. can anyone help??

thanks for all the replys ive downloaded the dvix codecs and k lite codecs pack and still nothing only sound still black screen iam only trying to play avi through media center. all my videos play ok on media player 9 tho

What you need are codecs.
Go to the Microsoft site and download the recent codecs. Also, make sure your multimedia software is updated.

Also, you can google for the codecs on the internet (www.google.com)

search for: Windows XP Media Center Edition codecs

Also, make sure your video card is up to par with the best of them. That might also be the problem.

Are you trying to play a divx? or Xvid? If you are you need to go to divx.com or xvid.com and download the codecs. Then the videos will play in Media Player and Media centre.

sounds like a missing codec,

codecs decode files so they can be played on you media player, although i'm surprised that the codec for AVI files is not in your system, try downloading "KLITE CODEC PACK" and install it.

Update the Media Player or alternatively download codecs from:

Or download JetAudio from:
http://www.jetaudio.com (atleast its not a f**ked as Microsoft products).
