I have just got 2 four month old russian blue brothers, they have been neutered, and they are big for thier age, thing is they will not calm down, run around like crazy and rarely sleep right through the night. Any suggestions? just to calm them down a little?

Russian Blues are BEAUTIFULL!

They are both under 6 months old AND they are both BOYS!
Neutered or not at that age they are still FULL of kitten "play hormones" (A name I made up for them, not a scientific one)

They need to have their little butt's worn down to the ground! :)

Do you play with them? Obviously you playing with them helps expend energy (yours NOT theirs) Give them catnip toys and let er' rip! They will bounce off of the walls then crash like the wee little ones they truly are.

I had to get an "electronic fishing pole" it is a pole type thing that continually spins around with a string/toy attached to it. It's pretty cool actually.

But until you can find one ( I got mine at Target in Ct.) try hanging pieces of rope/string off of high things so the dangling attracts the little buggers and they swat at it.

Also little cats seem to love (big ones too) those kitty jungle gyms.

I also ball up lots of little tin foil balls and throw them around the house.

Before YOUR bedtime launch a big time run around/cat nip toy play session with them. It should last them atleast 1/2 hour. Then Lock them in your room on the bed with the lights off and soft noises coming from the tv/radio whatever you sleep with.

Also allow them access to a window it will occupy them. All day and night access if possible.

Try to keep them awake during the day. It sounds mean but waking them up when their nap goes beyond 45 minutes during the day is a good way to re arrange their sleep schedules.

Keep them stimulated all day by loud noises like tv's, music, noisey appliances if at all possible.
When it becomes quiet it will lull them to sleep.
If you keep up that habit it will be a week or so before you will notice a sleep pattern change (night vs day).

Some idea are free some are less than 20$ use all free or combine just don't lock them up alone or apart. They'll really FREAK out then!

Good luck.

Let us know how it works out for you.

May sound dangerous, but it honestly isn't. This is how mother cats carry their young so they don't get into danger. It has been proven to help no matter who does it, but it must be done right.

1. Grab the skin on the cat's neck between his head and back, just in the middle, there is plenty there, and keep holding it
2. If you're passing a street -with the other hand keep also the rest of cat's body, but don't let the skin for a second
3. Keep talking sweet to the cat and calming it down

Tips:
******The reason for the cat to keep still when we grab this precise piece of its skin is atavistic. Cat Mum grabs it with her teeth to transfer and calm the kittens.
****** Hold that piece of skin, but do not pick them up like that. Even though mother cats do this, we can do severe damage to their spine.

Hope that helps

I have two big cats both neutered and they get crazy try to wear them out before night time. Also one time I got kitty traquilizers b/c I called the vet after not sleeping for 4 nights and told him I was going to through my cat out the window. But that is only in dire need of sleep b/c it can be harmful and it was scary. He just was limp and slept I didn't like it. But the second time I used it I only gave him half and I slept all night.

Try playing with them for a good half hour to an hour before bed. That should tire them out enough to sleep.
You can also try feeding them right before bed. Some cats love to sleep right after a meal.

Rub them behind their ears or something like that. Do something that cats usually like so they will be having too much for or having to much pleasure to freak out.

Kitty xanax! Try giving them a toy stuffed with cat nip. They will, play, they will drool, they will purr and lastly they will pass out.
