I usually do not eat all day and then eat a big dinner and I have heard that this could put my body into a starvation mode.

Jenna, Your body is programed to survive. If your body detects a crisis such as starvation, it shifts into a different mode. Your body will require less calories to function. Then when you decide to eat normal again, you will gain weight decause your body needs fewer calories to function. Also you may lose precious muscle and over time acquire more body fat. In other words, don't do it.

I wouldn't quite call this a starvation mode, which is when you are eating so few calories that your body just shuts down, and tries to conserve every extra calorie (so if you start eating normally, it stores every extra calorie as fat).

But you could be overwhelming your body. By eating a big dinner you put more calories into your body then you can burn in a short time. That encourages your body to store more of those calories as fat.

If you were to eat the same food over the whole day, your body could burn it off over the whole day, and you would be less likely to gain weight.

It's worth knowing that sumo wrestlers usually eat one meal a day, specifically for the purpose of building a large belly, which helps them be more stable for wrestling.

One day isnt going to matter, if you go about a week your body starts to conserve all your energy and your metabolism goes down. I doubt that youre going into starvation mode unless you do this quite often. Also it depends on the person I know people that need to eat 6 meals a day but I usually just eat one

If you are not eating enough to the point that you are starving...you are doing yourself a great injustice. Your
body does go into starvation mode and develops more
and more fat cells. Yes, that's true. You need to eat
healthy food that will keep your metabolism running at
a level that will burn excess fat in order to keep slim. Don't
forget to drink a few sport bottles of spring water every
single day. Water is just as vital for good health as protein,
carbs etc. moderation and balance is the key!!
In our house all we eat is chicken, fish, salads, fruit, fresh
cooked veggies. Multi-vit. are a good idea. NEVER skip a meal, especially breakfast. It's also a good idea to eat
your meals at regular times.

It literally starts to eat muscle. And it goes into starvation mode, dropping its metabolism and storing instead of burning any food that you do give it. This also rapidly speeds up the aging process on all of your organs.

The organs slowly begin to shut down systematically to preserve resources for the brain, heart and lungs. Among the first to go would be, the kidneys, bladder, intestinal function, liver and eye sight is also affected by starvation. Actual starvation is pretty painful.

Your body only functions in two states; Anabolic and Catabolic. What Anabolic means is that you are in a coloric surplus, catabolic being a caloric deficit.

People ARE animals, we function according to survival and with that, our brain will "inform" our body to function according to pattern. If you are in a pattern of catabolism, your brain will inform your body to, for lack of a better term, hit the RESERVE button. What this does is basically flip a switch that releases less digestive enzymes as a means to conserve energy. It takes energy to digest food, lots of energy. Imagine running a microwave all day long and the electricity bill at the end of the month....

So, when you go all day long without eating or eating very little, you are in essence "catabolic" (there's that word again ;)

Trust me, it's better to snack on peanuts all day long than it is to starve yourself and go home at night to eat a huge meal. Starvation and binging are the worst possible thing you can do to your body for your health. It increases the level of cortisol, a nasty substance that is linked to heart disease and all kinds of other bad diseases such as cancer.

Bodybuilders are the masters of staying anabolic! They don't do the Atkins diet, they don't do the south beach diet, they COUNT CALORIES and figure out their BMR (Fancy phrase for metabolism or how much calories they burn).

Now here's the thing. Women are constantly saying "I don't want muscle"! I got news for you, muscle is the ONLY anabolic agent in the body. What does that mean? It means that the less muscle you have, the lower your metabolism (the less calories you burn daily) Cortisol promotes muscle as a ready energy source in yoru body, remember cortisol is released when you are catabolic (not eating)..... Do you see the pattern here? Don't eat; go catabolic; release cortisol; eat muscle; burn less calories; all of a sudden eat a big dinner...... It's a HORRIBLE cycle to get into.

So, what can you do?

Bring food with you everywhere you go! Cheese sticks, Peanuts, Trail Mix, fruits, veggies with yogurt for dip, salads with oil and vinagar for dressing, chicken breasts, sandwiches, and on and on and on.......

It's your life, it's your appearance, its your health, take control.

Oh, and I don't care what Barney and Friends taught us growing up, Looks DO matter. Don't beleive me? Try and get a job without an in person interview. You think anyone will hire you based upon a resume? Probably not!

what percentage days are you planning to do it? if that is purely like some days properly, no i don't think of so, in case you've been on a abandoned Island, and all you've is water, you could live on.... yet on your case, you would possibly want to take a diet, perhaps you would possibly want to search for advice out of your physician first, otherwise it may end as a lot as ulcer :D

Your body will start burning your muscles, and hang on to your stored fat. The body needs fat to protect and keep it's vital organs going.

That's why you should never starve yourself to lose weight. You'll just make yourself very ill.

Your metabolism will slow down due to the body feeling depleted and it needs regular fuel to keep everything working correctly.
