The nose of the board dips in a little bit before curving, the tail does not.

This dip acts as a pocket for your foot to catch when doing tricks..

I skate both ends because i dont really notice the difference. Boards also last longer that way.

Some people however, skate only the tail and end up having one side of the board completely worn down.

to me, the tail is the side with my back foot on it, even thought it may not technically be that, i dont care, because i dont notice any difference

I copies this from http://skateboard.about.com/od/skateboardingdictionary/g/GlosTail.htm

"On most skateboards, the tail is turned up so that the skateboarder can put his or her back foot on the tail to do tricks and for balance. On the old fish shaped skateboard decks of the 80s, the tail was huge. On many longboards however, the tail will be flat because tricks using the tail are rarely done on longboards."

All the others are correct but if you're asking how you could identify when you just hop on it. Make a mark in the griptape or spraypaint the top of some of your screws so you could tell what's front/back.
