The "Rule of 60" is used quite often. It goes like this: At 60NM from a navigation station, 1 degree of CDI deflection=1 NM off-course. (and 1/2 NM at 30NM etc)

There is a nice little mental math equation that will help shoot ILS approaches with more precision. Multiply your groundspeed by 5. That is the required vertical speed to maintain a glideslope.

Time/distance to descend: Multiply your altitude loss by 3. Then multiply your Groundpeed by 5 to get the required vertical speed needed to descend. I.e. if you are at 15,000' travelling at 250knots and you need to descend to 5,000', start your descent 30NM (15,000-5,000=10,000 feet to lose...x 3) early and descend at a rate of 1250 feet/minute (250 x 5)

There are literally hundreds of mental math calculations that pilots can use and they come in quite handy in a pinch.

I disagree Leopold, Flight Sim's are used by alot of Real world pilots
to aid in learning IFR procedures and practicing them with the option of pausing it ,something you cannot do in flight. It can be, if used properly a great learning tool. Therefore, questions regarding its use in the Aircraft forum is very appropriate.
To the OP, I cannot answer your question, hope fully some one with more knowledge in Aerodynamics and physics than I, can be of assistance.

This is not the Flight Simulator forum.
It's for questions about aircraft.
Please put your question in the right area...
