My sons dog had seven puppies. I have taken care of them since they were born. He insists that he is going to take them to the pound on Friday because we have not found homes for them. I am very distressed. They are part hunting dog and chocalate lab. It was an accident because she got out and mated before he caught her. I need your advice. we all know what will be their fate at the pound. What can I do. It makes me very sad I love these sweet little ones. Please help.

Just for those that say have I never heard of spaying or neutering MY dogs. I have a basset hound and when I got her because noone else wanted her-first visit was to the vet. She had 2 hernia and she had them repaired and she also was neutered. I Have been to emergency vets like at 2am to seek help for my injured lab, who had to beput down. It was not my dogs. I also believe in spaying and/or neutoring. My son;21 years old alloed this dog to get out of its pen. She was impregnated by one of his dogs. I am the one to take care of these little ones and their mother and never minded doing so since if you read before passing judgement, in order that they be safe. I am an itelligent person a responsible person. Evidently you cant very easily spay a dog when she is pregnant.I have taken care of all animals, dogs, cats, bunnies, and that entails a lot of energy and compassion. Would you like to catch all the wild animals and hunt them become sterelized, then by all means do so. Next time, listen!

I volunteer at an animal shelter and a large part of what we do there is find loving homes for dogs and cats that are either strays or that people can't take care of. Call your local shelters and ask them about finding homes for the puppies. We usually don't get puppies, but, when we do, they are usually adopted in a day or two. Our shelter also asks you if you would like the animals back if they can't be adopted within a certain amount of time. You have the opportunity to make a family very happy by sharing your puppies.

Taking them to the pound may actually not be a bad thing. Most shelters have a better success rate in adopting out puppies than they do older dogs. Also, many shelters today are "no kill". Check with your local shelter to see if they euthanize after a period of time, or if they have adopted the "no kill" policy. If they euthanize, then keep calling other shelters until you find one that will adopt them out. Your son should give the shelter he takes them to a cash donation to help with their care and feeding until they are adopted. It isn't fair to the shelter to have them absorb the costs. You might have your son take his dog in and have her spayed so this doesn't happen again.

Post an add *or seven* on petfinder.com and hold on to them for another few weeks/months. Then, get your darn dog spayed. It'd be a good idea to get all the puppies spayed/neutered before you give them up, too.
But.... why are you letting your son do that? Tell him not to, YOU insist that you will take care of them *this involves sterilization* If your son isn't putting anything into them, he shouldn't have any say in what happens to them.

Maybe you should put an ad for them on petfinders or craigslist.Lots of people check those sites if they are looking for a puppy. Also like the previous answers ...parking lot +signs. Beats the heck out of taking them to the shelter...although they would probably be adopted even from the shelter.

craigslist is also very good and has listing in all localities

your son is responsible for the fate of these pups, he left his dog unaltered and allowed her to become pregnant, accident or not. for him to just dump them off is really heartless! i hope you can change his mind. but i do have to tell you, puppies actually usually fare very well at the pound. when people come looking to adopt, they want a puppy! and lab mixes are extremely popular on top of that. i would contact the pound he is considering taking them to, and see what they have to say. tell them you want an honest answer about what will happen to these pups and what the chance is that they will be adopted. and make sure he gets that dog SPAYED, NOW, so this doesn't happen again. good luck.

Put an ad in your local paper for 'free puppies to good home'. Also, make flyers with the same slogan. Ask every dog-lover you know to help you find homes for these animals. There are plenty of pet sites on the web, post on those... it might take a little longer than Friday, but if you can bare a few extra weeks with them, you could probably find them all loving homes.
Good luck!

A no-kill shelter is your best bet. Or an ad. They will most likely find homes quickly, being puppies and the breeds that they are. Don't let him take them to a pound.... and have him fix the dog to avoid it happening again! It should be automatic to fix a pet.

Take a picture of the puppies to the vets office and ask him to give them another week.People are in and out of the vets office everyday.Get their attention by putting FREE over the top of the picture. You want them to go to a person that will go to the vet.Where better? I know that where I live they have rescue centers, that's where I got my new best friend.Good luck....

Puppies are usually the first to be adopted from the Pound. Sadly, it leaves no extra room for older dogs that are usually put down after very short periods of time.
Try to find a no-kill shelter or PAWS rescue group in your area and please, have your dog spayed so that you won't be in this situation again.

If you know of a no kill shelter near your home, call one. If not, go to yahoo and type in "no kill shelters " and what state you are in. You will find one, I'm sure of it and then look them up on the web and give them a call - and keep trying until you find one that will take the puppies... if he is serious about taking them to the pound which is totally rediculous even if they are not purebred dogs. I have 5 brittanies and I understand the value of hunting dogs. What type of hunting dog are they, do you know? dynabar
