why do people think that just because they go to church every sunday, or everyday, or whatever, that they can act however they want. There are gangsters that talk about god, and people who obviously don't follow teachings, etc, of christ, or God (indirectly) thinking that just because they do this they'll go to heaven. Basically, why do people think that just because they go to church and "accept" (more like acknowledge) Jesus as their savior they can do what they want? don't you think there's more to it than that?

Religion makes people morally lazy. It does this in two ways.

First, it pushes a list of rules on people, telling them what to think is right and wrong without telling them why it is right or wrong. It discourages people from thinking about what makes something moral or immoral except for the default, "God said so".

Secondly, it gives a superficial response for remediation of wrongs. As long as the person "feels bad" about doing something wrong and mumbles to Jesus about it, they feel that's enough. There is little discussion about what made the action wrong or how to really ameliorate past actions. Instead, they just try to emulate a fictional character in an old book. That's hardly sufficient.

Well, it goes back to the first commandment. The one where God comes first. People go to church for God when they could be doing somthing else. But i agree with what you're saying. I go to church a lot and dont absorb any of it. Sikhism doesnt have mass. They see it as an empty ritual and prefer you to act like god would want you to act.

nope.

Its all about interpretation. Do you follow all the laws of the old testament? My guess is that you choose what ones still apply today and what ones don't right. For instance, you may say that taking Gods name in vain is a sin based on the ten commandments but eating lobster is ok.

Christians get to pick and choose what is right and wrong, that is why there are so many denominations. Its all relative. You may say that rappers are not really christians, but you haven't lived their life.

Little Mabooboo in Africa has a completely different interpretation of sharing than little Johnny in America, therefor interpretation of different laws in the bible will differ dramatically.

Its all relative.

Because there are people that believe it is church *membership* and the following of MEN'S rules that saves them --- not *relationship* with God. They have never opened the Word of God to see what HE says.

Prov. 16:25 "There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death."

dude, you hit the nail on the head and you're right. My father's family were raised and practicing extremist catholics.....as long as the punks went to church every sunday and confession once a week; they were absolved and on their way to heaven with wings-couldn't even get $200 for passing go on the way there.

It would seem to be a form of self delusion. And people can fool themselves, or even others- but they can not fool God and they can not fool Jesus. That is why Jesus said "21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."

So, in the end, they will have simply wasted their own time and energy pretending to be what they are not.

Yes!

They are hypocrites. Jesus says this is what the Pharisee's were...they kept all the laws and judged others who did not keep the law...but in their hearts they did not follow God.

You've got a good point, however I'm not so sure I've got a
good answer. One thing's for certain, God knows. People do
so many bazaar things, that it's hard to figure just why they do
them.

There is more to it than that. And no they can't go to Church on Sundays then live like the devil the rest of the week.

They will answer for their misdeeds.

Just because I sit in a garage doesn't mean that I'm a car. Same goes for Christians & church....
