Hubby was deployed because of this Iraq fiasco but served 12 mos. in the US at a base away from home.

On the 1040 they only list deployment in a combat zone.

I take it those who were deployed in the US away from home station dont qualify for any tax breaks.

Does anyone know the IRS rule on this? Thanks......

That's right. Only income earned in a designated combat zone gets any special tax treatment.

agree with above. My tax client's husband is serving in a combat zone '06-'07 and had a letter from the Marines stating such. so unless you have such a letter then there are no special breaks. Also, the military knows what qualifies as combat zone pay (tax exempt) and would indicate same on the W-2.

The tax breaks for deployment are for combat zones.
