I would suggest you first explain what you have told us to your school counselor. It can be a good first-step, and if need be they can speak with your parents, or be instrumental in getting you the mental health care if you need it.

Definately try to talk with someone. If you really are bi-polar, which by your description, it isn't necessarily, then it is a hereditary issue. Chances are, that one or both of your parents have the same issue. The school councellor idea is a good one. Also if you can't afford help, go to DSHS, explain what is happening and they should be able to give you a medical coupon to go get help from a low-income mental health clinic or a farm workers clinic.....there is help to be had, unfortunately in your situation, it looks as if getting it is up to you. Try your parents again, and if there is still no luck, have them read these answers that these people have written. Maybe then, they will see that it is serious, before it becomes MORE serious....good luck, and don't give up. This is fairly common.

"Hi Kim" I don't know if you are of age or not. If you are an adult it may not be necessary to tell them. I'm sorry but that is just the way I believe. I have major depression and my Dad would not accept that fact. He keep after me for years to get off antidepressant medications. I finally got to the point to where I kind of lied I would say "No Dad I'm not depressed any more." ( I was feeling better because of the medication) I am finally off medications after 16 years of having to to take them. My living situation has greatly improved. Now if you are still at home and really need your parents support in this because you need medication then together with the Dr. who diagnosed you have a conference with your parents so that they will know how important mental health is.

Tell your mom exactly how you feel, including your symptoms, and how often or not often your mood changes. Explain to her that there are so many types of bi polar. She probably doesn't even know much about the disease. See if mental issues run in your family, and that can give her more reason to believe you have it. Write her an e-mail or something if she doesn't pay attention in person.

Take the stress out of you. Engage in music, arts, or sports, anything that would let you up. And always unwind. About your mother's problem, well, tell her to stop nagging you and just believe you because she might one day carry all the guilt when she finds out that it's true after all.

Have you been to the Doctor and been Diagnosed with Bi-Polar? If so you can show them the results from the Doctor, because they will do a complete work up and test. You will them be put on medication. Have the Proof in your hands before you approach them.

Have you been diagnosed as bipolar by a health professional? If so, you could ask this person if he/she would be willing to meet with your parents to explain it to them. They might be more accepting if someone other than you gives them this information.

im not trying to be rude or anything but, are you 100% sure that you are bipolar?
if your sure than, even if you arent sure....i think that you should tell them. i think that you should sit your parents down and tell them that you need to talk to them, and that they need to be understanding. i think if you talk to them about it and make them know that your serious than they should by understanding.
or if you feel comfortable talking to one but not the other, than talk to the one your comfortable with. either way, i think that you should tell someone. esspecially about the knife.
just talk to them, and than it should be okay.
i hope this helped.
if you have any questions or anythin that you can e-mail me or im me.
good luck.
