It's not skipping meals that makes you gain weight...it's what happens AFTER that makes you gain weight. Here's why.
If you stop eating, of course you will weight a bit less than before. But if you skip meals for a long time, your body is going to think that it is not going to get much food, if at all, for a while.
So if you eat even a little, your body is going to save it up as fat to be used later, rather than digesting it. And as this fat builds up, you only gain weight.
So unless you are planning on not eating anything for the rest of your life (even water), it's not recommended that you skip meals to lose weight.
I hope this helped! Another way you can try to lose weight is by simply controlling the AMOUNT of food that you eat.
Don't go by halves, though. If you eat three slices of toast every morning, try two and a half with a bit more milk. (Milk fools your body into thinking it's full) Eat more fruits and veggies!
I know you probably know all of that stuff and came here looking for more info, but there's basically nothing else to learn.
I am overweight, and is also finding, day after day, that there's no shortcut to losing weight.

Let me reverse the question. If you have 5 sausages, 3 eggs, 3 rashers of bacon for breakfast, then skip lunch - do you reckon that would be OK?
Skipping meals is the worst thing you can do because your body needs food - whatever- on a regular basis.
It is not WHEN you eat, but what you eat.

Yes it does make you gain
If you skip breakfast you metabolism never really gets going until lunch therefore it is sluggish all morning and you eat more calories later.
As for other meals, if your body does not get enough calories or food it starts to go into starvation mode and conserve energy (therefore decreasing matabolism and storing more fat).
You need to eat at least three meals a day. Six smalls ones is best so that your metabolism is contstantly working

The thing that most people say is that you will gain the weight back right away if you don't eat for awhile. I don't necessarily agree with that. However, I do think that it's dangerous to do. You can faint, and do other stuff to your body. Your body needs something, and it can't just eat it's self all day.
I skip breakfast. I don't see the reason for it. However, I just eat something instead in between lunch and dinner.

Skipping meals makes you hungrier for the next meal and you end up eating more than usual. My advice, don't skip meals and use smaller plates for big meals to give you the impression that you are full.

I am so busy through out the day I do not have time to eat. I just had a 10.5lb baby went all the way up to185lbs. My baby is now 8 months, and I am 140lbs. I do not work out, I sit at work all day but I do not eat not anything but once a day. It is not healthy so I would not advise it because you can loose muscle instead of fat and make yourself really sick. So I would suggest that you eat a balanced meal and work out to loose weight. To answer your question yes you can loose weight with out eating but it is not healthy to do it.

Actually, skipping meals defeats your dieting efforts. It slows down your metabolism and will only made you eat more later on. Try 6 SMALL meals every 2-3 hrs. Cereal, fresh fruit, veggies with low fat dip,low fat sandwich meat(turkey is good) with no fat cream( spread cream cheese with onion or herbs then roll up and enjoy) Most important drink Lots of water. Try this for a week. It works for me. Lot's of luck to you.
