Any good ideas for a guy who drinks red wine? I do not really want to get him a bottle of wine and he already has the best opener on the market. Help to make his b-day awesome!

Steer clear of the wine rack (wine cooler would probably be great). If he really likes wine, then he probably either already has a rack or has a better place for storing them.

What kind of a price range are you in?

I'd say:

A wine journal
A local wine country guide
A bottle of a nice tawny port
A couple blind tasting glasses http://www.crystalclassics.com/riedel/8400-15.htm
A bottle of a Wine Spectator top 100 wine
A Burgundian Grand Cru wine
A Premier Grand Cru Sauterne (Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Chateau Guiraud, and Chateau Rieussec are all AWESOME)

Hope this helps!

My suggestions....take him on a wine tasting trip. This could be a day trip to a wine region nearby or an overnight stay. Wine tasting at wineries is a great way to sample lots of wines and discover some great new wines. For info on planning your own Califorinia wine tasting tour, go to http://www.cheers2wine.com.

If your friend enjoys wines, I would bet that this would be a great gift...plus he gets the pleasure of your company.

Other ideas: some nice Riedel glasses (or Costco has some nice Kirkland brand glasses that are much cheaper) or a magazine subscription to Wine Spectator.

what about a wine rack? or you could look at good food pairings with his favorite type of red wine. That way, even if you did get him some wine, you could back it up with a great meal to drink it with. A wine rack could be a really good idea, or a wine refrigerator type thing. Not exaclty sure what to call it, but like a temperature controlled device to keep his wine in.

Not sure what your budget is, but how about a small wine fridge? They have some that hold as few as 6 bottles of wine that cost about $60 - $70. That would be cool in my opinion!

Go to your local wine store (not the package store). Any store specializing in wine will have lots of cute accessories. You could get him a wine rack, cheese tray, cute set of glasses, decorative bottle corks... There are lots of possibilities and the staff at the store should be able to help you find that perfect gift for your wine taster.

Wine tags, for hanging on bottles.

A GC to a wine shop.

A nice bottle of a white. Seriously. Even for a red drinker, a good white is nice, on occasion. (I'm a red drinker and I do appreciate a quality white).

A bottle of a good ice wine, port, Madeira, sherry, or other dessert wine.

This liquid (name escapes me) that gets red wine stains out of tablecloths and clothes.

they now make really cute wine bottle holders that fit peoples personality to a tee! you can get little mustached men in hawiian shirts or big fish with their mouths hanging open. i got one for my friends parents that was a puppy wearing an overly large collar, it was so cute, the bottle fit right into the collar. they loved it and can actually use it.
