I've got a splinter that I've been trying to remove from my finger. I've used tweezers and I think it's a little too deep for that. I've also used a needle but I'm just making the site irritated and a big hole in my finger. I've waited for it to remove itself a couple of days to no avail. I don't want to go to the doc but I don't want to infect myself.

Soak it, and put a Band-Aid on it. Tomorrow it will have risen closer to the surface of your skin, and will be easier to take out.

Also, put Neosporin or an equivalent disinfectant on it to prevent infection.

If you can get it from a pharmacy try some magnoplasm or black ointment these are both drawing ointments and will hopefully draw out the splinter or you could try getting a small glass bottle and running very hot water over it then before it has a chance to cool place it over the splinter and while the bottle cools it creates a vacuum and should suck the splinter out. This works for boils and some pimples too.

I can rememember my dad using a bread pultiss (not sure on spelling) on splinters.
basically you get a bit of bread - squish it - put it in boiling water - then put it on the area with the splinter. Put a plaster/tape over the bread, and then leave for as long as poss (few hours). This used to draw the splinter out of the affected area.
Worth a go - it always worked for me.

Try using peroxide to prevent it from getting infected and it will eventually work itself out. When it is closer to the surface you can try the tweezers again, but make sure you disinfect the site after tweezing.

My dad always used nail clippers. If that doesn't work put a band aid on it with some antibiotic ointment and that should draw it out.
If you use nail clippers than you may have to clip some skin around it.

A good idea is to let it soak in warm water for about a half hour. This always worked for me.
