i let her out about 11pm and then she still wants to go out twice through the night. I feed her in the morning. I do leave her water as she is on dry food so i dont really want to take it off her. If i just ignore her she will go to the toilet in the house. Im a reck at work because of lack of sleep....any ideas?

check with your vet and see if she has a bladder problem.

It is possible to be a urinary infection. My dog had that and would get me up as well in the middle of the night (he's ten months). Also, make sure that she doesnt drink water at least a good hour before you go to bed. I hear ya on the lack of sleep since it's like training a new puppy all over again but i would definitely check with your vet ASAP as it might be a urinary problem that your dog is "warning" you about! Good luck!

I lost my old Dobe just before Xmas but when she was young we had her speyed and after that she had a terrible incontinence problem, we knew she was house trained as she got quite upset when she weed in the house. Our vet prescribed Propalin and she was on this for the remaining 10 years of her life with not another single accident. However your problem doesnt quite sound the same and I certainly wouldn't crate her or deprive her of water, but a get a quick check up to make sure she's OK.

They are a very clever breed and once they know that if they make enough fuss that you will get up and see to them they have you wrrapped around their liitle paws!!

Good Luck, I hope she OK.

Please, first of all, only pay attention to the suggestions to 1. TAKE HER TO BE CHECKED BY A VET. Dogs usually do what is necessary for them not just having pesky, "I want to piss the other dogs and everybody in the house off!" behavior. THEN, if she doesn't have a problem, linit her fluids throughout the night and see if that helps but truly, the vet should be the one giving you suggestions.

Good Luck!

get her a dog crate, leave her in there on a night and ignore her when she want to go out. dogs dont like sitting in their own mess so if she is in a crate she cant get away from it and will eventually stop wanting to go out on a night - hopefully
also i would get her checked by a vet - somthing may be wrong

I have always gotten my dogs trained by using the kennel method. I get a kennel that is slightly bigger than they are, they will not potty in a close area, the minute I get home I let them out. I do it at night also. They learn to hold it, after a couple of weeks they can be left out and no messes.
This has always worked for me,
good luck

You need to get a crate and make sure there is only enough room for her to lay down and sleep. Make her stay in this every night. She will not use the bathroom in the crate because it is in a dog's nature not to "go" in their bed. You may have to put the crate in another room with the door shut for a few nights so that her whining doesn't keep you up, but she will get used to it. I have 2 dogs and they both have their own crate to sleep in. Good luck and happy sleeping to you!!

i am afraid there is no fast solution. first take your dog to the vets a 3 year old should be able to last the night. secondly limit food and water after 10pm it should not do any harm unless she is already ill but the vet will advise you. she is obviously trying to tell you she needs a wee so atleast she is learning . when you do let her out do not talk to her or interact just let her go bring her in and go back to bed. a doggy door could be a solution especially if she is wanting to go out to the loo hopefully she will learn quickly to just go out instead of waking you up. good luck dont give up

Talk to your vet. She may have a bladder problem, but if not, crate train her. Dogs don't like to defecate where they sleep, so if she's in a crate, she will "hold it" till you take her out to go potty in the morning.

Don't restrict her water, that would be inhumane and possibly make matters worse.

Just like us, when she needs to go, she needs to go. If she can't get out, she can only hold it so long.

Have you explained this to your Vet? There can be some medical conditions that might be aggravating this.

It must be very hard coping at work when you have been woken in the night. How old is she, could she be coming into season or something like that?

Hopefully your Vet will be able to explain or help some - Good Luck!

Is it possible to paper train her? If not, then you should probably buy her a crate and put her in it at night with alot of newspaper on the ground. A seperate room would work good also
