Is it possible to dogde sword attacks? I know it is unlikely that someone is going to attack you with a sword nowadays. But thewre is a tool used for cutting tall grass or bush or weeds in Southamerica called "machete". And I heard some people were attacked by another person armed with a machete, so it is like a substitute for the sword.

Yes, it is possible to dodge a sword attack.
If you are not where the sword is going, then you've dodged the attack. It can be an effective tactic instead of or combined with blocking an attack, or if you are fighting with unmatched weapons such as sword vs dagger.

It's possible to dodge a sword just like it's possible to dodge anything else. I consider machetes used as weapons to be "improvised swords". And yeah, in South America, Africa, and other tropical equatorial regions, machetes are extremely common tools and frequently used by indigenious people as weapons to a great effect.

But I don't reccomend solely dodging a blade to be a winning strategy. If the opponent is missing, but he's still swinging (and you're not), then he's still winning. Interupt or jam that swing and perform a disarm, or a close-in vital strike, or better yet, fight back with a weapon of your own!

If you have to block, find something to block with besides your arms! Get a stick at the very least.

Speaking about swords, I heard in the news that in South Carolina, someone broke into a woman's apartment wielding a sword. And he was fought off by the woman's roomate who had a sword of his own! So it can happen!

Somebody pulls out a sword and starts after you, run, your not going to dogde a sword. Your best bet if you can't run, is to put something like a car or a telephone pole or another person in between you and your attacker, while your looking for a brick or rock to bounce off the swordsman's head. Indianna Jones had the right idea, a colt python 375. works pretty good against a swordsman too.

If you can take a sword away from a guy with your bare hands your a better man than the blogbaba.

If your not worried about a South American with a machete then you are a brave fool. The machete may be cheaply made, but the skill behind it is obviously way higher than people think. in central and south America, machetes are used for everything. Best way to dodge one is not to dodge, but block. Machetes don't have hand guards, so a disarm/wrist break is a realistic option too.

Yes it is, in Indonesia it is the weapon of choice.
Cheap, and disposable
And as for sword fighting, anyone foolish enough to play sword fighter today, has never seen a cops side arm.
Beware of ALLTRUEISM
It is based on Self Deception, the root of all evil

Sure you can. However, your success depends upon how skilled the person wielding the sword is and how fast you are. If they are a trained swordsman, their training curriculum certainly incorporates techniques that compensate for such occurrences. However, even someone completely unskilled who swings quickly & randomly has a pretty good chance of hitting you.

it is possible to dodge them, but not with any degree of regularity.

If you are defending too long with a weapon, you will eventually get hit, even moreso if you are unarmed against a weapon.

And a machette is a very cheaply made blade, it is made that way because of the climate- designed as a tool more than a weapon- although it obviously has applications as a weapon like many tools or objects, I would be more afraid of an axe or chainsaw as a tool turned weapon.

anything is possible. most martial arts classes teach at least one way to defend and or disarm an attacker with a baseball bat. many of these techniques would be effective. sword techniques are typicaly for the upper belts. your best bet is going to be running. Pray at that point you can run faster scared than they can mad.

I had a friend in indonesia.....said carrying a machete was standard for a while. But then you have the machete to block with.

If you see it coming...you probably "could" dodge it.

Guns are good, running is OK. Blocking the wrist is the way to stop the blade, BUT that takes SERIOUS practice. I'm an instructor and My advise would be RUN For Your LIFE. or Empty the magazine !!!!
