Simply put, they're hypocrites. The bible makes it very clear that Jesus will be the judge, not any of us. I think some of them confuse the scripture in the NT where it says to judge your brethren, which means the other members of your congregation, and it doesn't really mean judging them, it means to go to them and discuss it if you feel they're doing something wrong. As usual, some people misinterpret this as telling everyone who doesn't believe as they do that they're going to hell.
I have no idea if they enjoy doing this, all it really does is make christians look bad.

I am a Christian and I hate telling people that they will go to hell. It's a terrible place and I wouldn't wish it upon my greatest enemy. However, there are times when it needs to be said to get the point across. Jesus said it, but in a very loving and caring way. And that is the way that Christians are to do it. Althought some of us stray from that at times, and it is a very sad thing. I'm sorry that you've had bad experiences with Christians being like that, and I hope that you understand that they do not make all of us, and Christianity really is an amazing thing to be a part of. Having a close relationship with Christ is what matters most in life. =]

Christians should only be telling you the truth, as its written in the bible. This is their responsibility, as instructed in the bible.
If you don't believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin, then you will spend eternity in hell. It's a very simple truth.
If you were going to get hit by a bus because you're crossing the street w/ your iPod blaring in your ears; wouldn't you want someone to tell you a bus is coming so you wouldn't end up mashed potatoes? This is the same thing; except on a much larger scale.
The real tragedy would be if Christians didn't spread the truth to those who didn't know it. Unfortunately, some Christians don't tell others and more unfortunately, some non-believers choose to not believe. Why, I can't understand.

i am not one of those kinds of Christians, however, I do know what you are talking about. They are people who are very focused on Romans 6:23 "the wages of sin is death..." but they all too often forget that there is a second half to that verse "...but the free gift of God is eternal life with Christ Jesus".
Why do they do it? You would have to ask them to be certain. Perhaps they are so worried about other people's toment they feel compelled to point out the negative alternatives. From a Christian perspective, there are two choices; rely on Jesus righteousness or your own. Since it is part of Christian theology that Man is not capable of earning hisway into Heaven, that only leaves one alternative.
However, this fact does not give Christians free rein to condemn non-believers with going to Hell. For one, it is God who determines who goes to Heaven and who does not. For a Christian to judge someone in that way is sinful, it is the userption of God's divine authority. In short, it is idolatry. Secondly, it goes against the very specific instructions teh Bible gives us in how we are to share our faith:
1Pe 3:15
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always {being} ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence
Kind of hard to be gentle and reverent when you are condemning people.
Hell is a reality. No amount of sugar coating will change that. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to tell people about it. Unfortunately, too many chose the wrong way.

It's not about power, or validated feelings, or exoneration or anything like that. These people just care about you and want you to have the same feeling of safety and protection that they feel their religion provides through Jesus. The point is that they believe you will go to hell if you aren't christian, and they really dont want that for you.
I have noticed SOME athiests lately campaigning Against religion in the same way that Christians campaign for salvation...why do THEY do it?

I think you're right...I don't know why some people feel they have the foreknowledge of who will be going to hell. I'm a Christian, and I believe that people will be in hell...but I can't imagine that I know who they will be or why they will be there.
Only God can say who will be in hell and who will be in heaven. I think we might all be surprised at the outcome. God has perfect justice, perfect mercy and perfect compassion....I know I don't. So I'm sure glad I'm not in charge!!

The Biblical answer to your question is found in James, it say's some save with compassion, but others with fear, pulling them from the fire. It takes different things for different people, but yea I do thinik there are a lot of people who do it for kicks or on their own, in those cases it is just ignorance, but don't get hauty, there are ignorant athiests also.

I am a Christian and there is no way that, i enjoy telling a person that they are going to die and burn in hell, however the truth is the truth. If you die without excepting Christ as you Saviour you will burn in a devils hell. This is Bible fact, not something that we made up. However it is your choice

I blame insecurity. A secure person would never feel the need to threaten another with an imaginary, or to be fair, a supposed, place of torture and pain.
