Link to pic is at the bottom. I photoshopped the pic to show you how he looked when he was sitting, because when I took the pic he had gone back to normal. Do you think it's because I turned the ceiling fan on? I had also just finished trying to get him to 'step up.' Was he scared maybe? And here is my original post:
About 7 minutes ago he started sitting in a weird posture. He's perching completely horizontal. It's hard to explain, but usually, their feet perch, and then from their tail to their head the body is at an angle, and their head is more vertical. Now, his tail and his head are at the same angle. Think of a straight line. That's how he is sitting. What does this mean?

The second pic with the black line is really how he was sitting for a while. It looked just like that.

On a random note, would anyone be able to guess his age from the pic? I bought it at a pet shop a few days ago and it has a lot of black bars on his forhead and his eyes are completely back. 10 weeks maybe?

He has a wooden branch in there too if he wants.

budgies will sit in all sorts of positions , or hang from the cage bars. They do it if they want to look at something.
He looks fine in the pic on the left.
They sit a bit forward and raise the tail if they are gonig to poop.
If its moving around and eating OK I wouldnt worry about it.
If something is worrying him he may stand in a position ready to fly away. You could try covering the top of his cage so he cant see the ceiling fan .

when he sits like that.... does he jump / 'fly' down shortly after sitting like that ?? I used to have a bird, that did almost the same thing......and that's all it was. (he was getting ready to 'move' in the cage.) It looks healthy, and doesn't look very 'old'... so i dont think it's any sort of a health issue. Also, if you just got it a few days ago....... it could be a ''comfort posture" for him / her. I really dont think any major concern is needed, but it's good that you posted the pics, and, asked the question. Good luck, and enjoy your new friend !

Your budgie is under 4 months old. Judging by the picture (he's so cute!), he hasn't had his first molt yet.
As far as stance goes, don't worry about him so much. Birds like to sit at odd angles. My budgie sits in weird positions all the time. That's not really that weird of a position, either.

He could be having a hard time sitting on that slick perch. Try giving him perches that he won't slide on.
My other guess is that it is a female bird practicing a mating stance. Not very likely with the blue on his cere though.
As long as he is eating, drinking, and not acting sick I wouldn't worry.

I really couldn't tell you for sure, but I do know that birds will keep their heads downwards if they are having a hard time breathing. I suppose that could be because of the ceiling fan...shut it off and see.

He is so cute :] he looks about 3-4 months old. Not sure why he sits like that, its probably comfy for him. My budgie used to sleep of the sides of the cage so yeah.

he look s fine if the ceiling fan was on it could have scared it and he was tying to stay as far away from it as posiblw
