^^ My problem is stated the title. :'-( I don't know what I'm doing wrong! I follow the recipe exactly as directed, and I'm a VERY good baker (no professional schooling though, just trial and error & finding my own little tricks along the way), which makes me think that it might be the recipe itself, and not my fault. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make things taste like FOOD and not raw flour? There'll be 10 points for best answer it in for ya! Thanks so much!!!

Love Always,

Errands

A couple of possabilities come to mind.

First of all, are the baked goods actualy done? Do they have the right consistency for what they are supposed to be? (ie. are they not gooey). If it is not done, try turning up the heat 50 - 100 degrees next time you cook. It could be that your oven is not very accurate and is not getting as hot as the nob says.

If you are fairly sure that the baked goods get completely done, you might want to buy some new flour and try bakeing with it. It could be that your flour is stale or that it is simply a realy bad brand (though I've never heard of a brand this bad).

If this doen't work, then chances are that it is the recipes. Are they low sugar or low sodium recipies? This might cause the problem as salt helps to bring out flavors and sugar adds much to flavor. Try a new recipe (there are plenty of good ones on the internet or you might just get a new cookbook).

I hope this helps.

Good luck, and good bakeing.

If I were you I would start with the salt all baked products need from 1 1/2 to 2 % salt based on weight of flour Carrot cake would need even more because of all the carrots I can't be of much further help because I do not know much about cups and spoons all I know for sure would be in pounds and ounces.
the way you describe your problem I believe it is the amount of salt used. Go to
www.cooks.com type in the recipe and take your choice then compare the salt content to your recipe. I hope that I have helped you.

I have no idea either. This has happened to me with at least two bags of flour recently, but never before. The second time(even a different brand), I actually took a picture of the flour to know for sure that it was really all-purpose regular flour, but it still yielded the same taste. Other bags of flour had no problems.

Raw flour or raw dough? Like others have said change brands of flour, blend it better, make sure you bake them long enough to get them done. Maybe the little tricks you speak of are changing the recipe to where it is not as good as what the recipe was originally.

It's either the floor or the batter. If your cookie batter taste weird too, then it's the floor, or on eof the other ingredients [could be the eggs or too much milk]. My cookies used to taste weird as well. Anyway. Make sure you follow the exact same steps. Also make sure the cookie batter isn't either dry or mushy.

Carrot cakes do taste a bit like raw flour, even the perfect baked ones do. Maybe it's just me.

That happens to me when I'm baking and not measuring. I, too, consider myself a good baker. So, when I toss in a little flour here and there to thicken up chocolate chip cookie mix or something...it can taste very flour-y.

If you're going to improve upon a recipe - stick to adding more extract or something along those lines.

Hope it helps.

Most likely the problem is the flour. Make sure it is not stale because that would make the food taste like you say it does. Also make sure you are using the right type of flour such as baking, sifted etc. Good luck!

Dump it out and buy a new bag of flour. It sounds like it is strong or may be the wrong type of flour. Get a new one and try that.

What type of flour are you using? The only suggestion I have it that if the flour isn't incorporated well it will not cook properly.

It happened to me too. My biscuits, for example, tasted like raw flour...and...I just added vanilla powder.
And it balances all! It gives a sweet taste without that "industrial taste" I don't even want to reach.

Cheers from Italy
