I had a daughter, I loved her from the moment she was born. But I really didn't get that heart wrenching hurting with love feeling until she was about 5 years old. Anyone have a similar experience?

I had that unconditional, tremendous love feeling right from the moment I saw my children. There are those times though, when you feel such pride in your children that you feel you are going to burst. Maybe that is what you have been feeling more recently. When they start to really develop their own personalities, I guess you could be feeling more a love of who they are as a person. If you are worried that your situation is abnormal, I don't think it is; everyone feels differently.

I totally get this question. It may seem like a weird question but I understand it.
My first pregnancy was unexpected. I was scared to tell my parents.
I eventually did tell them but I never felt happy about becoming a mommy.
Any way my daughter was born 2 1/2 months early. She weighed only 4 pounds. She stayed in the hospital for a month. When she was born they immediately took her away, due to her early delivery and low birth weight. I never saw her. I went to see her that evening. She was in an incubator with tubes every where. I felt so sorry for her. If I was not so selfish, irresponsible and stupid she would not be in this situation. IT WAS ALL MY FAULT.
My parents constantly gave their support, telling me everything will be okay.
The next day I went to see her in ICU. She was still hooked up to wires. I had to scrub down and wear a coverall just to visit her.
I put my two hands inside her tube and tried to hold this pale, fragile baby. She could not even open her eyes. Within minutes of rubbing and holding her she reached over and grabbed my finger.
At that moment I LOVED HER.
I began to cry. It was a very emotional moment.
I was 19 yrs. old. I have never felt love like this before. Of course I loved my family, but this was different. She was me.
I vowed to always take care of her...I promised.
My daughter is 11 yrs. old now and she is beautiful.
Arielle is my heart and soul!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fell totally in love with my 2 the first time i heard their little hearts beating. Of course for mothers this is easier to experience then for the man. Its just the feeling that you are part of something bigger... you are needed to protect and grow this little tiny something from fetus - birth - infancy - ect. You are just soo important to this child. Its that unconditional love. The love you have no matter what happens, how your day went, what broke on your car now... its always there and it never goes away. Its like being attacked by an invisible embilical cord for the rest of your lives. Ok so Im babbling now lol

But yes, I fell completly in love with my rugrats at the first ultrasound.

I fell madly in love with my son the very day I found out I was pregnant. I had wanted him and waiting for him for sooooo sooooo long and when I found out I was finally pregnant - well I floated on cloud 9 the whole 9 month! When I felt him move inside of me I cried the first time I was so happy. When he was born and he looked straight at me- for the first time in my life I knew what true unselfish love was all about! Id would give my life for his in the bkink of an eye. I would hold him and its like our heart beats matched- were in unison. And I felt so whole-complete- and right for the first time in my life. He is 16 now and we talk about just about everything. He is such an awesome kid and I thank God every day for him!

Oh Gosh, Yes!! I was hooked the moment I laid eyes on her. But for me it was earlier, about 2. Her little personality formed, and she was able to communicate, and got a sense of humor, and I've been head over heels in love with her ever since.

I loved her, unconditionally, from birth, but I've just now (at the age of four) started to feel that intense love that brings tears to my eyes. I'm sure this was due to the PPD I had for years, though. She's just the sweetest thing in the world to me!!

Im a female and that happened to me. of course i thought she was fabulous from the beginning but I love her more and more the older she gets. she's about 2 1/2 now and she amazes me the more cognitive she is. The more independent she becomes...
So i understand exactly what you are saying.

I think it is when they develop a personality and you can carry on conversations with them. They say and do funny things and they are capable of caring for themselves on the basic level.
