Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Z710 is the one with the 10x Optical Zoom, right? If you're zoomed past 3x, you're going to want to use a tripod unless you're in very bright light conditions with 1/60 or faster shutter speed. At higher magnification levels, the natural shakiness of your hands is also magnified.

Your best bet is to just get a tripod. Honestly, you can get a cheapie at Walmart that works just fine for standard use for about $20. It's what I've got. Even with a tripod however, you have to be careful that you don't shake the tripod when you press the shutter.

If you're going to stick with handholding it, stick with lower zoom levels, or lean against a wall or a tree, and hold the camera's viewfinder to your face firmly. This gives a little more stability without a tripod.

Oh, and about the battery question, I've had excellent experiences with CR-V3 Lithium batteries. They run about $10 each, but they last for a VERY long time in comparison to any other batteries I've tried. They're available to get in rechargable form, and I've heard good things about them.

You need to get a set of rechargeable NiMHi batteries. Look for AA's that are spec'ed at 2700mA or higher. That should do the job for you.

One place to get a good selection of the higher end batteries and chargers is thomas distributing. google (er, I mean, Yahoo) them.

As far as blurry images- it's hard to tell the reason. Generally not using a high enough shutter speed and not holding the camera steady are most likely the cause.

battery won't matter when it comes to image quality. use tri-pod when picture looks like blurry. it is you hands movement induce by blurred images.
