I have what I THINK is eczema round the back of my neck in the hair line, its itches especially at night if I get hot more often then not. I did have a rough time at work a while back, but have been retired for 3 months and its still no better, so its not really down to stress any more.

It is NOT fleas - I get a lot of scabby bits when I scratch, although I do not have dandruff, I always use Anti-dandruff shampoos, and rinse thoroughly when I wash my hair in the shower - ANY CLUES????: WHY AND HOW can I get rid of it????

Sounds like a good description of seborrheic eczema of the scalp sometimes called seborrhoea capitis.

This is a common condition with 2 theories as to its cause. Originally it was thought to be a type of eczema with fungus on top. However about 20 years ago the theory changed, and it is now said to be purely a fungal problem.

Personally I have to say I think the older theory is correct. If I am right, and remember I have not seen it, the best treatment is a combination of Betnovate scalp lotion and Numeral shampoo. This combination will usually produce significant improvement in a few days. You will need to see your GP as the Betnovate is on prescription.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Best Eczema Treatment?

I used to work on a pharmacy counter and there are some great over the counter products that you can buy. Best bet is to speak to your pharmacist first and if it doesn't clear up then off to the doctor. I suffer with the same problem which is caused by certain hair products. (Even ones I've used for years). So try experimenting with all of the toiletries, hair products and detergents to see if you can illuminate the cause rather than just treating the symptoms. I have managed to control it using this method. Good luck and I hope you manage to get it under control because I know it can be very frustrating!

See if you can get trimovate cream - I think you need a prescription for it so ask your gp - it is really great for most skin problems (I've used it for several times of eczema and for several fungal infections - I've tried other things but nothing works like it!). Hope you get better soon xx

Why don't you go to a dermatologist instead of suffering all this time? If it is eczema you will need a prescription for medicine to relieve your symptoms.

you say its not really down to stress but your body will take longer to recover from it
try the redbush website if your looking for something to clear it up there is loads of info on there (yes it looks like a tea bag site) and its all natural i used it constantly to deal with psoriasis
bit more info from their site

Redbush Soap

Some of you say that washing with Redbush has made your skin just softer and healthier, others tell us how their eczema and psoriasis is clearing up, or their acne has all gone. In South Africa you can easily buy rooibos soaps, and many homes have other creams and lotions containing this herb. However it is not available in England, and it should be. Scientific research in Japan and in South Africa has shown that rooibos can be a potent aid for skin complaints. Eczema and psoriasis sufferers experience relief from itching, dry skin and a softening of rough thickened skin by adding a strong pot of the tea to their daily baths. Other benign skin rashes may also disappear quite rapidly with this herbal tea bath. Professor Weinberg, Head of the Allergy and Asthma Clinic at the Red Cross War Memorial Hospital in Cape Town has told us that rooibos "is often used in baths for infants and children with allergic skin conditions. These infants and children find this very soothing and non-irritating or drying to the skin. I have never encountered any adverse reaction to these rooibos baths."

I think you mean excema, a skin condition. Dairy products do not always affect excema, you need to speak to your doctor/surgery nurse for advice on what you, personally, should be doing. Join the excema society, find some local help groups - there is always help out there! especially for children with excema (a distinct lack for those adults who continue to suffer!)
