'Acute' in medical terms tends to mean something that comes on suddenly. It also implies it runs a short course.
So i would say no, aplastic anaemia is not acute, it is a chronic condition, in that it does not 'clear up'

A lot of lay people use 'acute' to mean serious. It certainly is serious - as has already been said, it means the bone marrow does not produce adequate numbers of red and white blood cells and platelets.

There is an info booklet that I often give to my patients which is excellent. It can be found online at http://www.lrf.org.uk/media/images/Aplastic_2165.pdf

(It's produced by the leukaemia research foundation, but it isn't a type of leukaemia, thay just do all the good haematology booklets)

Aplastic anaemia is one of my particular interests, and I'm happy to answer any more specific questions on it

Aplastic anemia is Anemia due to failure of the bone marrow to produce blood cells, including red and white blood cells as well as platelets. Aplastic anemia frequently occurs without a known cause. Known causes include exposure to chemicals, drugs, viruses, radiation, immune conditions ,pregnancy, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, and inherited disorders .
Symptoms of aplastic anemia include fatigue, bruising, bleeding, shortness of breath, fever, chills, and less frequently, bone pain. The diagnosis is based on the presence of low red and white blood cell and platelet counts and a decrease in the normal cells of the bone marrow.
