I bought them and printed them up myself. You can do them by hand or on the computer. You can get them from any party supply store or, if you want to do them on the computer, go and check out Staples or someplace for the paper.

Best reason, it's awkward sometimes, not knowing where to sit when you enter the Reception. With Place Cards, your guests will be at ease, and can change where they are sitting later. If they want to. I like it best, when you arrange it in sections for the adults who really tie one on, separate from the ones who don't.
There are easy ways to make them. Do you have a bridesmaid or someone with an art of Calligraphy, you can purchase blank cards at a Party Supply House. Make it a fun thing to do.
You can of coarse do this with an at home printer, use a fun but intelligible Font, and pop them off, no sweat. Type them, and stick-em.
Best Wishes!!

The reception hall may supply you with place cards. Ask them. How I saw it done, a lovely table with a lace tablecloth and a bouquet of flowers is placed outside the room where the reception is going to be held, and all the place cards are layed out with guests names in alphabetical order and then the guests pick out their place cards which has the table number on it and they walk into the reception hall and look for their table. Of course each table has a big sign with the table number on it.

Yes you should have place cards because not everyone will be comfortable finding a place to sit, and it cuts down on fighting about where. Like the grooms drunken buddies at the forefront, by the head table, while grandparents and treasured relatives are in the corner by the bathrooms.
After the toasts and first dances, everyone will scatter and mingle but it is good to have a "home table" to come back to.
You can buy inexpensive cards, and have someone with nice handwriting write the names on them.

Yes, you should absolutely have them. It will turn into mini-chaos if you don't. There will be some people who do not want to sit with certain people. Others who don't know many people and don't know where to sit. Then there are those who will try to squeeze 12 people at a table designed for 8. The cheapest way to do place cards is to go to Staples and buy the blanks, then print them yourself in a nice font on your computer. It shouldn't cost you more than 20 dollars and will surely save yourself a big headache on your wedding day.

Yes, have place cards AND a seating chart. Guests do not like to wander around to find a place to sit. Also, if you leave it up to them, they will unbalance the tables. Like, a family of four will hog a table of six, leaving two seats untaken.
Just go to Michaels and buy some placecards and write them out. It doesn't take long, and they're not expensive at all.

I'm choosing not to have place cards for my wedding. Everything is going to be pretty casual and relaxed.
If you do choose to have place cards they can definitely be done inexpensively! Check out the wedding section in stores like Wal*Mart, Target, Michael's, Joann's, etc... Check out eBay.
Print or type them up yourself. Have an artistic friend? Ask her to do them, just give her the supplies. There's lots of options! Google wedding place cards or place cards and see what kind of ideas are out there!

Absolutely! I was the mother of the groom and stayed to help clean up the church knowing they would take pics so we had time to get there. When we walked in there was only one empty table so all his family sat down and were asked to move as it was reserved for the brides maids and their guests. Needless to say, we sat right where we were at or could set on the floor so we stayed just as long as was decent and went home. It was a mess and everyone was mad. Not a chair even for his elderly grandmother. Very poor planning so don't make that mistake. Good Luck and God Bless

let people sit where they want. i almost did place cards. even bought the stuff to make them myself (still have it). but i decided against it. it was just an extra stess i didnt want. you dont want to make the mistake of placing people at the same table who maybe dont get along. if they chose their seats, the guests will be a lot happier and they can sit with who they want.
i thought people would leave if they were just left wondering around not knowing where to sit, but that wasnt the case. everyone sat where they wanted and everything was fine.
good luck and congrats!

It's best to have guest cards if there are someone people who don't get along well, or if you'd prefer sitting by someone. If you don't want to spend money making them, just print out some tags from the computer.

If you want certain people on a table then just have a central list rather than telling them where to it at the table. We are having place cards at our wedding but I know who gets on well with whom so am not worried and if its not what they want they can always swap seats if they really cant stand the person next to them.
