Your credit score wont go down. Insurance companies do what is called a soft hit. They arent running a full report on you, just getting a credit rating. I would suggest getting many quotes as there are several companies out there and they all have different prices for different people in different locations.
Shop around. Even if you get 15 insurance quotes, your credit score wont go down more than a few points.

As long as you have a clean driving record, and prior insurance, you should be able to find reasonable insurance. Yes, insurance companies do look at your credit, but they are looking at how you pay your bills. They're checking to see how responsible you are. It doesn't not drop your score. They don't run it like finance compaines do, so feel free to get as many quotes as you would like. I work for Allstate, and we tend to have very good rates.. :)

You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.
Go to: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=616165&Type=auto
Take care,
