If the problem is definitely the transmission then I would find a reputable transmission shop in your area. Make sure they give written detail on the work they are going to do and make sure you approve before they start the work. As with any mechanic it's hit or miss but a little common sense should keep you from getting hosed. Make sure to ask ANY question you think of, don't be afraid of looking dumb-if you were a mechanic you wouldn't need to have someone else do the work. As far as taking it to the dealer, I aways steer clear of them because past experience has taught me that they are usually clueless and over priced. If it's not covered by warrant, take it elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Go to the dealer and get a GM reman. It will come with a very good warranty.
If you take it to a "Transmission shop" they will put other peoples used parts in your with little warranty unless you buy the premium package repair for a rediculous price.
Once the tranny shop has your car on the lift, your gonna get a bill. Those places are worse than used used car salesmen!

$1000-$3000 Try going to www.autozone.com, or calling a local trans shop, they are usually cheeper. Also try calling some junk yards...if the have your trans in good condition..it could run as little as $500!
goodluck!
