I was always wondering why Muslims stone people who commit adultery although nothing in the Quran supports that. Finally, I read a prophetic statement told by Aysha (one of prophet Muhammad's wives) that says that there was a verse in the Quran that set the punishment for people who commit adultery to be stoned. Aysha said that that verse was eaten by chicken and this is why it is not in today's Quran.

Is that statement true?

yes, because the only copy in the world of the kuran was lying around open at a particular page which a chicken (an animal with no desire to eat inedible objects) decided to eat.
A chicken would not eat paper im afraid.

No, the chicken did not eat anything. Stoning is a cultural thing which hopefully will stay in the past.
