I believe that the message of God of the Bible is for everyone. That is why I like to have all kind of people here. Like Jesus, He did not hang out only with God's followers. He was even scolded when He befriended a tax collector.
Jesus took the nails for me, I can take little personal insults. And I pray Jesus' prayer " Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing "..Jesus was a perfect example, that is why it is safe to follow His lead.

Believing in God is not a prerequisite for posting or answering in the religion and spirituality section. It is a section to ask and answer questions about religion and spirituality, you don't have to believe in God. There are also religions that are atheist (Buddhism, Taoism, Buddha is not a God). I don't despise God, how can I despise something that I do not believe exists? As far as slander, it really goes both ways, I see Christians post slanderous and rude questions to Atheists too. I do not agree with slander either way, I am Buddhist but I also have family members who are agnostic, Catholic, Baptist and even Wiccan. I hope this answers your question somewhat. Peace.

I'm actually exactly the opposite of you, I don't understand why so many DO believe in God. I have looked into various religions over the years and I don't understand the difference between the average Catholic (or any other denomination) person today and an ancient Egyptian who believed in Ra.
I came to the religion and spirituality section to try and help me understand.
p.s. I don't despise anyone...just a little scared sometimes.

I answer questions here because you pose questions to us- I am just in the society and culture section not the religion and spirituality subsection- so I come across them. I don't despise god- I don't think it's possible to despise something you don't believe in- I do very much dislike religion I think a lot of times religion takes a nice sweet idea with some moral value and turn it into hatred and judgement. Hope I helped!

I think you should distinguish between what you call despising God or not believing in any god. Many express disdain for religion, but there is a difference between god and religion. As to why people answer questions about religion & spirituality but don't practice a religion, that is because people can study something or be interested in something and not practice. Many people talk about football but don't play it. Also, many questions pop up on the main page. Finally, the topic includes spirutuality and many non-religious folk consider themselves to be spiritual.

It is the same as when those people you refer too ask something that questions your belief. I have asked some general questions here, and you wont believe how many responses I get. People are so adiment about there fatih being the correct one. The bad thing is that those who feel so strongly about there faith, and cant accept any other explanation, and are unwilling to accept the fact that it could be one big myth, leave their selves open to ignorance and misconception. That is not to say that your or their beliefs are not right. I feel you have to be open to all possibilities concerning something you have not witnessed with your own eyes or actions.....No body knows for sure what is right and wrong about different denominations.....

I don't have any problem with those who seem to despise God. The stronger their feelings about religion, the stonger conviction when it happens.
So-called atheists sometimes make the best Christians, since atheism is not a disbelief in religion, just a disbelief in God. Atheists can be, and quite a few are, very strong in their religion of non-belief.

We were here to talk about religion.
Unfortunately the flood of believers made it impossible to ask or answer serious questions about what religion is or does.
They rapidly turned it into a place for them to preach and to try to dominate. I wish that decent questions about the sources of the bible, or the roles that religion plays in society could come up again, but that opportunity is likely gone for ever. Thanks to all the fundamentalist bible thumpers who have never even read the bloody(dripping blood) book.
The Fundies even drove most of the Christians who did understand their religion's history and functions out of this area.
So now we are left with the atheist who want to fight and the religious nutters posting.
You have your bible, supposedly it has all the answers. If you fail to understand you can open your heart and ask Jesus for special tutoring. Why don't you go do that instead of asking mere mortals for answers. I really don't understand why you are here at all.
Thumbs up for Rita Tarder!

Since you believe in God, you cannot understand people who don't.
Since other people don't believe in God, they cannot understand people, like you, who do.
Understanding of another place cannot be gained by standing still.
Condemnation by Christians leads to condemnation by those who were condemned. Slander leads to slander. Christians (and others) who deny religion and spirituality in others cannot understand why others deny them.

I'm not in R&S - I'm in All Questions because it gives me a cross section of everything. I like the debates, and even if someone disagrees, it doesn't mean you're being slandered or condemned. However, if I want to be preached to, I'll go to church.
