Usually this is the only piece of jewelry you are allowed to keep on. Often a piece of tape is placed over it though.

ANY time you go into the OR they usually require you to remove all jewelry. If for some reason you can't get the ring off then they will put tape around the ring to hold it in place since your hands most likely will shrink due to the coldness in the OR. The only time you don't have to remove jewelry is when you have a local done and that's providing it's not in the way of the local.

With it being your wedding ring and you don't want to take it off they will put tape over it any other jewellery you have to take off Oh and no nail varnish on fingers or toes I'm having an anaesthetic myself on Thursday so good luck.

yes, because if your wedding ring hand swells up and then they can not remove it they would have to cut your ring off. SO I would just remove it. IF you are having surgery and you cannot remove it they might have you sign a jewelry release consent form saying that if something were to happen that your give permission to the hospital to cut your ring off and then you have to sign a second part saying that you would come back and sue the hospital.

It depends on the dr doing the operation and on the operation - they ask you to take of jewlery incase they need to resusitate you because if they do (with a defibulator - sorry for my spelling!) it can give you a burn where metal is touching your skin - for longer/more risky opporations they will probably want you to take it off, but often they will just cover it up with a plaster and you can keep it on.

If you're having an operation, good luck xx

No! I had surgery last year, and really didn't want to take off my wedding ring. The nurses were happy with that and put tape round it. I was also allowed a couple of photos in to the anesthetic room with me to look at as I drifted off.(I was quite scared) Just explain you want to keep it on. Good luck with your surgery.

No you don't.

If they really do enforce this, they are not delivering effective spiritual care, and so delivering bad care. Challenge them!

I'm a nurse, I've worked on surgical wards and in theatres, and I don't know one nurse/theatre staff who would make you take it off. We would tape it on securely, though ;)

The only instance I could think of you absolutely having to take it off is if you were having an operation on that hand.

So if you're not, don't worry! x

No. They will put tape over it. Everything else has to be removed, tho.

Don't wear nail polish, or they'll be removing that before the surgery, too.

Whenever I've gone to the hospital for surgery, I was given a paper of pre op do's & don'ts & leaving all jewelry at home was on the list of do's.
